Outlook Indexing Does Not Finish or is Corrupted

If indexing seems to be stuck and is incomplete, rebuild the search catalog. To rebuild the catalog, follow these steps:

  1. Exit Outlook.
  2. Open the Indexing Options.

    In Windows 8:

    On the Start screen, type Indexing Options, click Settings under Search, and then click Indexing Options.

    In Windows Vista and in Windows 7
    :

    Click Start, type Indexing Options in the Start Search box, and then press Enter.

    Note If you are prompted for an administrator password or for confirmation, type the password, or click Allow.

    In Windows XP:

    Click Start, click Settings, and then click Control Panel.

    Double-click Indexing Options.

    Note If Control Panel is in the Category view, click Performance and Maintenance, and then open Indexing Options.
  3. In the Indexing Options dialog box, click Modify, click to clear the check box next to Outlook, and then click OK.
  4. In the Indexing Options dialog box, click Advanced.
  5. In the Advanced Options dialog box, click Rebuild.
  6. Click OK.
  7. Click Close.
If indexing finishes without including Outlook data files, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to request assistance with Outlook Instant Search.

If indexing does not finish, contact Microsoft Customer Support Services to request assistance with Windows Desktop Search.

Setting UP VPN on Windows 7 Desktops

******** Setting UP VPN on Windows 7 Desktops
Open "Network and Sharing Center" - goto start menu, Enter "Network and Sharing Center" in the search box
Choose "Setup A Connection or Network"
Choose "Connect to a Workplace" - setup a dial-up or VPN connection to ... then hit Next
Choose "No, Create a new connection"
Choose "Use My Internet Connection (VPN)
Internet Address: DC1.grcprc.net
destination name: "My New GRC VPN"
Dont check the boxes below
Enter your given username, and password, check "Remember"
Domain (optional) is grcprc.net  or just grcprc  
hit connect.

Optional Verify the settings:
Security Tab:
Type of VPN: Automatic
Data Encryption: Require Encryption - disconnect if server declines
Authenticiation: Use Extensible Auth Prot (EAP)

How do you know your're connected?
mouse over network icon in lower right corner of task bar, you will see connection.

Setting Up Outlook Account - Offsite - No VPN

********** Setup Outlook Email Account - Offsite - NO VPN ************
Even though your account is MYNAME@GlobalResultsPR.com, you will setup your account as MYNAME@grcprc.net, and Outlook will autodiscover the correct settings for GlobalResultsPR.com

In this note MYNAME and username will be the same. i.e. GJoe 

Exit Outlook and be sure all OUTLOOK.exe processes are terminated.
goto Windows Control Panel - use Start Button, select Control Panel
Select Mail (32 bit)
in Mail Setup dialog, press "Email Accounts" button
in Email Tab, Press "New..." button
Select "E-Mail Account" then Next>
Enter Your Name, then email address <username>@grcprc.net, then your new GRC password, then Next >  Your email username will most likey be your first initial and last name. i.e. if your name is Gerald I. Joe, the your username will be GJoe not GIJOE, we don't use middle initials. 

Outlook will use autodiscover to search for the account configuration, it will take a long time, then show three green checks to indicate success, when prompted for password, then press Finish.

Press OK in the next dialog, don't worry about what it says.
by the "Windows Security Box" enter GRCPRC\MYNAME or enter MYNAME@grcprc.net

In the Account Settings dialog, select the new GRCPRC.net account, be sure it says "Microsoft exchange" then press Default button

Close, then CLose, then startup outlook... wait until it starts.

In the "Windows Security Box" enter GRCPRC\<username>  or <username>@grcprc.net, always check the box to remember the pass.
starting outlook ... it takes a while, be patient....

if you see a dialog saying the certificate is "NOT trusted" press YES or OK to accept it.

Setting up outlook

********* SETTING UP GRC EMAIL ON AN IPAD OR IPHONE **********
1. Press "Settings" button
in the "Mail Contacts, Calendars" section locate ACCOUNTS area, then press "Add Account"

2. Select "Exchange"

3. In the Exchange box that appears next: enter Email <Username>@grcprc.net  -- always use grcprc.net, your username is the given username that you use on the desktop computers to logon, then enter your new password for logging onto desktops, and then under description, enter "GRC Email"

4. Press Next,  You will then see 3 blue checks, and then you will see the green sliders, choose all, press Save

5. Press the round button on the bottom of your ipad, iphone

6. Press the email button to see your messages.
